The question of how big a rugby player's salary can get in comparison to football can often be raised. Here are the top 5 highest paid international players in Rugby Union.



5. Steven Luatua (£650,000) - The back row for Bristol Bears and has captained for his team more than 20 times and has capped 15 times for his home county New Zealand.



4. Owen Farrell (£750,000) - Plays fly half for Saracens and is the current captain for England with over 80 caps.



3. Maro Itoje (£850,000) - Second row for Saracens and is now a regular starting player for England with 39 caps.

Charles Piutau and Handre Pollard (£1,000,000) - Charles Piutau has earned the reputation as one of the most aggressive attackers on the planet and has impressed the club of Bristol Bears with his experience at full back. He has had 16 caps for New Zealand and has earned Pro12's Player of the year in 2017.



Hendre Pollard (£1,000,000) plays fly half for Montpellier and for South Africa with 48 caps.



As you can see the salaries of international rugby is significantly different to that of football, mainly due to the popularity of the sport. However, rugby is getting more and more popular as the years go by, therefore these figures could increase further.
